Prevent the spread of Japanese beetle!

A quarantine is in place to restrict the movement of high risk yard debris to currently unaffected locations in the state, in order to keep the beetle adults and larvae contained to Washington county and increase the possibility of eradication.

The Oregon Department of Agriculture is asking all residents, landscapers, and waste managers that work in the yard debris quarantine area to follow the information below in order to comply with the quarantine.

Download printable flyers: English | Spanish (Español)
The quarantine means all quarantined yard debris must be either:

  • Left within the quarantine area (see a map of the boundary at https://oda.direct/JBmap quarantined area is in red)
  • Put into standard curbside yard waste bins
  • Taken to yard debris drop site during spring & summer when above options are not available
Quarantined yard debris includes:
  • Grass clippings
  • Plants with roots or soil attached
  • Sod or removed turfgrass
  • Growing media (i.e. potting soil from raised beds or potted plants, NOT fill dirt)
  • Compost
  • Bulbs or tubers of ornamental plants
  • Mixed loads containing the above material (no loads containing garbage and non-plant material)

Yard debris and materials that are NOT under quarantine:
  • Fall leaves
  • Tree limbs or prunings larger than 2 inch diameter (no roots attached)
  • Shrubs prunings or clippings (no roots attached)
  • Fill dirt
  • Wood chips
  • Lumber or fence boards with dirt attached
  • Non-plant materials (for example: lumber, cement, gravel, and fencing)
  • Materials not on the list of quarantined debris or materials
If you have unanswered questions or concerns about quarantined materials, please do not hesitate to contact us.
